Includes Paul Fejos's 1929 feature, The last performance starring Conrad Veidt about a magician who becomes smitten with his assistant. Initially filmed as a silent, dialogue scenes were added before it was released. This version no longer exists, so presented here is the Danish version of the silent film, retitled De tovl klinger (The twelve swords) with Danish intertitles and added English subtitles.

Special features include audio commentary by film hisorian Richard Koszarski ; The last performance, Paul Fejos's 1929 silent; reconstructed sound version of Broadway; Fejos memorial, 1963 visual essay; audio excerpts about Broadway from an interview with Hal Mohr.

Includes booklet featuring essays by critic Phillip Lopate and film historian Graham Petrie and an excerpt from a 1962 interview with Fejos.

The early Hollywood gem, Lonesome, is the creation of a little-known, but audacious and one-of-a-kind auteur, Paul Fejos, who bridged the gap between the silent and sound eras. Fejos pulled out all the stops for his lovely New York symphony set in antic Coney Island during the Fourth of July weekend, employing color tinting, superimposition effects, experimental editing, and a roving camera, plus three dialogue scenes, added because of the craze for talkies. Includes bonus features.
