Description
Asylum takes place in England, during the high-Freudian days of the 1950s, when psychiatry had started to flex its muscles. Max Raphael is a professional success, but his wife Stella has already exhausted the era's possibilities. She adores their 10-year-old son, but her marriage has long since faded into endless days, gray evenings sipping scotch by the fire, and badly concealed contempt. When Max is hired as Deputy Superintendent at a high-security psychiatric hospital, Stella meets Edgar Stark, a sculptor institutionalized for murdering his wife in a jealous rage. They soon begin a torrid affair and inevitably, catastrophe follows.
