Description
In "The Third Man," out-of-work novelist Rollo Martins is invited to post-war Vienna by his old school friend Harry Lime. He discovers a bleak landscape divided into four ruling sectors, where a shortage of supplies has led to a flourishing black market. He also discovers that Harry Lime is now dead. Unconvinced by the stories of a fatal road traffic accident, Martins embarks on a mission to find the uncomfortable truth behind his friend's untimely death. In "The Fallen Idol," some hard truths are learned by Felipe, the young son of the French Ambassador in London, when he witnesses cruel Mrs. Baines' fatal fall and then lies to the police about what he saw. Felipe's only aim is to protect Mrs. Baines' adulterous husband, the family butler whom Felipe idolizes. But the boy's conflicting statements serve only to implicate his hero in a possible murder charge. When Felipe finally decides to tell the truth, he is frustrated to discover the no one will listen.
