Description
Jane Eyre: Bronte's story of an orphan who grows up to become governess of a mansion, and who carries a tormented love for a man named Mr. Rochester. -- Wuthering Heights: When the dark brooding orphan boy Heathcliff enters the Earnshaw household at Wuthering Heights, he is at first shunned by his new stepsiblings, Catherine and Hindley. Catherine eventually falls in love with Heathcliff, but Hindley's rivalry with Heathcliff only deepens, and when Hindley inherits the estate, he treats Heathcliff as little more than a servant. When Catherine later marries a neighboring landowner who can offer her social advancement, Heathcliff's humiliation is complete and he charts a course of revenge that will have tragic consequences for everyone. -- Tenant of Wildfell Hall: When the beautiful widow Helen Graham moves into the derelict Wildfell Hall with her son, she arouses great curiosity from the local villagers. Gilbert Markham is a handsome young farmer who finds himself drawn to the enigmatic Helen and encourages her to open up to him. But even the sympathetic Markham is unprepared for the secrets Helen will ultimately reveal, secrets which the repressed Victorian society would rather bury forever.
